Sacramento, CA – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for the West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada from 7 a.m. Saturday to 4 p.m. Sunday, bringing snow and gusty winds to the region.
According to the National Weather Service, elevations above 5,000 feet can expect 4 to 6 inches of snow, with peak accumulations reaching up to 8 inches. A dusting is possible down to 3,000 feet. Wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph are expected, which may lead to downed tree branches and hazardous travel.
The heaviest snow is anticipated Saturday evening, making driving conditions particularly slick. Motorists should prepare for chain controls and delays, especially on roads south of U.S. Highway 50.
The advisory also warns residents to monitor road conditions via Caltrans QuickMap or by dialing 511. Travelers are urged to pack emergency supplies and exercise caution when driving in affected areas.
This winter storm follows a pattern of seasonal weather typical for the Sierra Nevada but could significantly impact travel plans.
The advisory will expire at 4 p.m. Sunday. Further updates will be available through the National Weather Service and local alerts.
